Album: Xmas 2006 (Mallacoota)Xmas 2006 in Mallacoota with the Herman Family

Xmas 2006 saw 6 Herman households gather via plane, car, bicycle and several trailer loads of supplies for the annual family catch up, which this year was held in Warwick Herman's home town of Mallacoota.

The cool Xmas weather offered ample opportunities to catch up with family and long absent siblings, cousins and in-laws. Of course, a trip to Mallacoota is not complete without jaunts in the bush, big doses of sand and salt water at the beach and a boat trip on the beautiful Mallacoota lakes. Xmas is also a time to share gifts and check out all the new toys, which this year included Tonka Sal, the 4x4.

Wendy flew down from Cairns and joined Grandpa and Nanna Herman, Peter and Anna with Marcus and Alex, Fiona (Nona) with cousin Michael, and the Arber-Herman clan of Cath, Matt, Connor, Caitlin and Megan, who all traveled from Melbourne to rendezvous at big brother Warwick's place in Mallacoota.

21 December 2006

Packed up, with the Pod trailer bulging at the seams we hit the road at 4am Wednesday morning for the 600km drive to Mallacoota.

Stopping at Sale for a much needed Caffeine fix and with the girls just beginning to wake we made our way for Bairnsdale for Breakfast where, Fiona and Michael caught up with us and we all stopped for an hour and ate together before filling up with petrol and hitting the road once again

We reached Mallacoota about midday and made our way to the Real Estate Agent to pick up the key for the rental house and then dumped the girls at Warwicks to be baby sat whilst we unpacked everything.

22 December 2006

Day at the Beach with a few photos of the house we stayed in and dinner that night at Warwicks.

This turned out to be the only hot day with a temp in the low 30C's, we all headed down the beach and met up with Wendy, Fiona, Michael and a couple of his friends.

It was also the maiden voyage of the inflatable boat which took a hammering, considering the kids where filling it up with water attempting to sink it, yet it came out unscathed.

The flys on the beach where incredible and no matter how much repellent you used there was a constant black swarm, theres even photos which have a fuzzy black spot which is a fly buzzing past the camera as the photo is taken

Four Wheel Driving

The day was cold and raining so we all headed out to explore Croajingolong National Park, except Connor who chose to stay at home.

The plan was to head for a Lake that i could see on the GPS, unfortunately the track was closed to vehicle traffic so we turned off down a track marked as "Four Wheel Drives Only" The Tom Tom software we use on the Pocket PC was pretty useless in here with the tracks not marked correctly.

The last track on the way out was clay and extremely slippery, just when we nearly reached the Highway we were stopped by a tree across the road, which meant we had to back track along this track.

The amount of mud stuck to the underneath of Tonka Sal' when we arrived back to the rental house was amazing, there was no metal to be seen anywhere!

Xmas Day

Santa managed to find where we were staying and visited during the night, dropping off a pink bike for Caitlin and a push along bike for Meg. He ate a mince pie and drank a glass of milk and gave the carrot to Rudolf.

The number of presents was completely overwhelming as seen in the pictures.

We spent the morning at the house before heading off for a late lunch / early dinner at Warwicks house
