Holiday 2010 (Marlo Vic)

Album: Holiday 2010 (Marlo Vic)It is now our third visit to Marlo on the Victorian coast

The caravan will be at Marlo for a little over a month, with us staying for 12 days and then Malcolm and Puk staying for a fortnight before we return again for a few days and to pick the van up.

Arriving and setting the caravan up.

We were initially going to be on the "overflow site" but were lucky as a site became available due to a couple needing to return home early, unfortunately we will still need to the van to another site as we were unable to book a single site for the entire month.

Tuesday, 29 December 2009

Kids out riding their bikes around the caravan park.

A visit to Yeerung Inlet, this used to be our favourite spot but the mouth to the river has been closed for almost a year now and the water is becoming a little stagnant. With the river closed to the ocean there are more and more fish to be seen and caught.

Kids helping prepare dinner before bedtime stories around the campfire.

Board games and continuing on with Caitlin's Xmas present Lego house.

A strong easterly wind today so down to Salmon Rocks where the headland provides some shelter.

Thursday, 31 December 2009

Down to the beach not far up the road from the beach opposite the caravan park but is a little less crowded. I believe this beach is called Old Seat Beach and its great for kids as it is very shallow and you can walk all the way across to where the Snowy River flows into the sea.

Friday, 1 January 2010

Continuing on with Caitlin's Lego house, it is almost completed now with only half the roof left to finish.

An afternoon spent at the beach at East Cape Conran with the girls building a Mermaid castle in the sand complete with seaweed tree.

Saturday, 2 January 2010

A cold rainy day today so we headed inland to do a bit of exploring. After the girls being carsick due to the windy roads we stopped at Goongerah campgrounds for toasted sandwiches cooked on the Trangia.

Off to see the Delegate River tunnel i have wanted to see this for quite some time but have always run out of time in our travels. Its an 80m hand cut tunnel which was dug by hand in 1889 to divert the river so gold prospecting could take place on the bend of the river.

A stop for a cuppa at Wilson's Hut, which was built in 1916 and is generally in good condition but has had a few repairs that are less than authentic.

We couldnt find Victoria Star Historic Mine nor Jungle King Mine after searching for sometime so we headed into Boonang which is marked in all the maps as selling food and fuel this is incorrect as the new General Store is closed and up for sale and the old store is also closed.

Sunday, 3 January 2010

Today we needed to move the caravan from the site it was on to a new site, this site was less than 20m away, so we walked over most of the outside items to the new site and then moved the van.

Once this was completed the girls played Rummikub

Album: Day 8 - Holiday 2010 at Marlo in Victoria

Monday, 4 January 2010

A strong southerly wind today so we headed down to Yeerung inlet which is sheltered from the wind coming off the sea.

Catherine did a bit of fishing in the Yeerung River and hoocked a good eating size Bream but it came off the line as soon as she brought it out the water, everything else caught was undersize and needed to be thrown back.

Cait and I wandered off to the beach on the other side to jump from the sand dunes

Tuesday, 5 January 2010

After breakfast Caitlin and I went for a bike ride down to French's Narrows which is approx 4 km s down the road. There is a memorial walk along a boardwalk across to the surf beach.

On returning Caitlin completed the Lego house then we headed off to the Marlo Pub for dinner on the Verandah.

Wednesday, 6 January 2010

A cold and windy day today so we decided to go to Warwick's house in Mallacoota and visit Peter and Anna who are staying there.

On arrival we discovered that Peter had been digging fot the last 3 day a trench in an attempt to get the Betka river flowing once again, the river had been closed since some time after Xmas last year.

Later in the day we made our way back to the Betka river to see if the river was still flowing (it was a little, sort of) and for a bbq dinner.

Album: Day 11 - Holiday 2010 at Marlo in Victoria

Thursday, 7 January 2010

I managed to talk Cath into a game of paddle ball which was given to the girls yesterday by Uncle Warwick, much to my amusement Cath was hindered by her attire and just managed to stay respectable.

We all went for a ride down to French’s Narrows which Caitlin and I rode 2 days prior.

Back again to our favourite beach which I will just call “Old Seat Beach”

After dinner we did bedtime stories around the campfire and once the kids were in bed we watched “Grand Designs” on the EeePC in front of the fire.

Saturday, 9 January 2010

Our final day before we head home, we are waiting for Malcolm and Puk to arrive to do a hand over.

Its already turning into a scorcher of a day so after doing an initial pack we headed down to the beach to cool off for a while and then returned for some lunch and to pack the car.

Album: Day 17 - Holiday 2010 at Marlo in Victoria (Returning Again)

Sunday, 24 January 2010

Back at Marlo, we went to find the beach Malcolm had told us about which is located just down from Salmon rocks and is a hidden walking track just opposite the East Cape Cabins Rd.

Album: Day 19 - Holiday 2010 at Marlo in Victoria (Returning Again)

Tuesday, 26 January 2010

Down to a favourite beach we used the inflatable mattress that we slept on whilst staying in Mallacoota to float around the Snowy River on.
